Open a can with a push of a button! Smart Touch Automatic Can Opener Review

Maryam Z | 1:24 PM | | |

Are you tired of twisting and turning when it comes to opening a can or having to dig the lid out? I've had so many issues in the past with can openers, both automatic and handheld. I've had can openers that made the lid on the can look like a Ninja Star, openers that would get stuck on the paper and ones that wouldn't even want to pierce through the metal. Oh was it a pain! Oh, and those automatic can openers from the store are convenient, but they are quite disgusting. The blades aren't removable, so cleaning it is a pain and it doesn't get everything out. I was contacted by Viatek to do a review on the Smart Touch Automatic Can Opener.

The Smart Touch can opener is the easiest way to open a can, bottle and jar without having to deal with a mess. Just place it on a can, press the button and away it goes! As we know, manual can openers require twisting and turning and it's makes it impossible for people with arthritis or joint pain. With the Smart touch can opener, you can twist off bottle caps effortlessly. It's unique hand design gives you all the leverage you need. The can opener also fits all can sizes and shapes without leaving any sharp edges like an ordinary can opener. The uniquely designed blade clamps down on the lid from the side, leaving behind a smooth and dull surface. It also has a strong magnetic contact point do that the lid never falls into the can.

In the above image, I am demonstrating how the handheld can opener works. When cutting, it pierces through the top of the can leaving a sharp edge to the lid. We all know that after this point, it's time to dig the lid out of the can. Usually before I open my cans, I wash the top off and remove any dust or bacteria. There are so many germs on the cans and washing it before opening is safer than having all that nastiness go into your food. Once the lid is dug out, you are ready to use the can.

One thing that bothers me about opening a can with a manual and automatic can opener is how sharp it leaves the lid. My kids have a tenancy to go through my recyclables and see of there is something they can play with. There are plastic bottles, glass bottles, cans, containers and so on. I usually give them the containers to play with because they like putting things in them, pretend they are cooking in them or they even use them as drums, lol. When it comes to them trying to go through the recyclables, I have that fear that someone will cut themselves from the cans because of the sharp edges. That is why I keep them away and when they want something, I get it for them.

This right here is the Smart Touch automatic can opener. As you can see, the can opener is like the manual opener, but instead of the blade being on the inside on the can, it's on the outside. It is extremely simple to use. There is no need to puncture any holes in the can, there is no twisting, no turning. None of that! All you have to do is place the Smart Touch on the top of the can opener, push the button and let it go.

The one thing that I love about the the Smart Touch is not only does it make opening a can so much easier, but it smooths out the edge of the rim. There are no sharp edges and it's safe to the touch. I ran my my finger through the edge a few times and it didn't cut me what so ever. To be honest, I wasn't going to try it with the lid that was cut with the manual opener. We all know what would have happened there, lol. Another great thing about the opener is not only does it smooth out the lid, but there is no need to dig anything out after opening. The Smart Touch can opener has a magnet that attaches to the can, so when it's done doing it's magic, just lift and the lid is attached. You can also use the lid as a cover if you want.

Here are both cans and you can see a big difference. The manual can opener removed the inside leaving this thin, sharp top and the Smart Touch opener removed the outside rim leaving the lid smooth and safe. I love the Smart Touch can opener not only because it does an amazing job, but now I don't have to worry about my kids getting injured! This is a great little gadget to have in the kitchen. It's small, fits in any sized drawer, saves you counter space, easy to clean and it's convenient!

  10. Thanks for the great pictures showing the difference between the two openers. I really like that this opener not only makes the can opening smooth, but that it also makes the removed lid smoothed so that there is no risk of getting cut by it. I love that the blade is removable unlike my last two electric can openers (it's why I didn't buy a third)!

  11. I love this! I have terrible arthritis in my hands and fingers and currently am using the standard type hand-held can opener and 99% of the time I have to wait to open a can until someone else is home to do it for me. I don't use a stand-up electric can opener because I don't like to space it takes up on my already limited counter top area and I don't want to have to keep taking it in and out of a cabinet when I need to use it, once again due to hardly having no mobility in my hands. I also love the idea that there are no sharp edges with this can opener! This product looks awesome! Thank you for the review!

  15. This might be the can opener I have been searching for all my life. The can top is cut so smooth and even, no jagged edges to cut yourself. I have been using the same hand held opener for years and years. I hate electric openers, they NEVER work. This one might just work. Kudos to Viatek! I love you!

  18. This can opener sounds wonderful. The older I get the harder it gets to open cans because of my hands. I really like that it's battery operated and that the lids aren't sharp after being cut off. I would love to have a can opener like this.

  19. This looks WONDERFUL! I have an old Black & Decker under the cupboard opener, and it barely works. I love the idea of this one that it is battery powered and can be moved about (even taken on a picnic or camping!)

  25. I have bought can openers in the past, and they do not work! I think this would be a very good can opener to take camping and I like how easy it is to use. I looked at the site and this can opener was on HSN and it really works! I need to get one of these.
