Bean bag chairs have been the fad since 1968 and regardless of how long it's been around, it's one thing that will never get old. Did you know that bean bags were originally called Socco (shapeless chair)? The Socco was invented by three Italian designers and they wanted to create an Italian Modernism movement. Once the chair perfected, the targeted users of the chair was a hippie community. There's also a rumor that the Socco was invented by accident from a Styrofoam factory that decided to put all the leftover pieces from their production in a bag. It was known as the first chair to move with the person while sitting it it.
I remember when they used to have a few bean bag chairs in the elementary school study room and whenever it was my classes turn to go in that room, I made sure I was the first one to enter the room just so I can sit on one of the few bean bags that were in there. Till one day when someone put a hole in them and the polystyren beads started coming out... Oh was I upset! After that day, I haven't sat in a bean bag chair since. For many years, I've wanted to get one, but with my three kids, that made it impossible. See, when it comes to my kids, they are destructive! I don't know how many chairs, toys, books, clothes and everything else we've gotten and it was destroyed... Oh they joys of kids!
Now, I've reconsidered the thought of getting a bean bag chair and I figured I do a little search and see what there is out there and maybe, just maybe I might get one. On my search, I came across Jaxx Bean Bags and I thought, hey, these don't seem to bad. I contacted them and here I am, doing my review on them. The one thing about Jaxx that caught my attention was not only the selection of chairs available, but the material they use inside of them. Instead of those polystyren beads that get all over the place and becomes a hassle to clean, they use premium shredded ecofoam. Ecofoam is basically a furniture-grade and up-cycled shredded foam. That's it!
When I received the Jaxx bean bag in the mail, the box had quite a bit of weight to it. The bigger the chair, the more weight the foam has. It looks like they sucked out all of the air that was in the bag that contained the foam so they can pack it in a smaller bag to keeps it's shape and make it a heck of a lot easier to ship. And of course, along with the foam, I received instructions, the liner of the bean bag and the cover. The chair I received is the Saxx 4' Bean Bag Chair in Denim.
- Cover - Denim / 100% cotton, American-made denim
- Liner - Polyester liner with childproof zipper

Now, as you can see from the image above, putting the bean bag together seems pretty easy.
To be honest, when your removing the foam for the first time from the small pouch, it is a bit of a pain. The moment you unzip the pouch, the foam begins to expand and it makes it a bit difficult to remove. So I would recommend having someone help your remove the foam from the pouch. Or, if your a stubborn person like me, do it yourself, lol. After that, things become easier. Now, once the foam is removed from the pouch, grab the liner and place the foam in there. Pull on the plastic bag the foam came in and make sure all of the foam is in the liner. It can get a bit messy when doing this since the foam tends to stick to the plastic as it's being moved around.
I only had a few strays land on the floor, but it was easy to clean. One thing about the liner that I enjoy most is the childproof zipper. You can remove the piece that you pull on and no once can open the pouch without that piece. This is great especially when you have kids like mine who tend to get into everything... Now that the liner is filled and closed, place it in the outer cover and of again, zip.
They recommend that you let the bag sit for a few hours allowing the foam to expand all the way. I wanted to wait till that process was complete, but my youngest decided it was time to throw down on a game and plop his butt on the bean bag. Yeah, that's him right there enjoying the bean bag chair. He told me that it was going to be his new gaming thrown, lol. I'd have to say that I'm quite pleased with this bean bag chair. It's extremely comfortable and everyone loves it. I love that Jaxx uses foam instead of the polystyren beads and with the liner and cover, the bean bag is very sturdy.
I mean, these bean bags can take all kinds of abuse, especially when it's done by kids. Not only do they sit on it, but they will jump off the couches and throw themselves onto the bean bag. Yeah, I've told them numerous time, more like a trillion times not to, but they always do it behind my back. But to be honest, I would have done the same thing if I had one of these when I was a kid. But overall, I am very pleased with the Jaxx bean bag chair. It's been years since I sat in one and now, I can enjoy every minute of it!
